RPK @ Pete arrested under ISA (12/09/2008 1:15pm)
The news didn't come as a surprise for me since I was expecting it to happen at any time. Badawi has started to resort to his final desperate moves.
He desperately needed to do something to stop this blogger from "spreading more lies; seditious, racist or religiously insensitive remarks targetted against the BN government". Recently, the government had tried to block RPK's online portal but the move had backfired on them. It came under fire for breaking its own promise of "no censorship of internet". However, yesterday, the goverment withdrew its instruction to block the site....not without reason.
Finally, they've resorted to detain Pete under ISA; A draconian law which allows for detention of a person without trial.....very unfair!!!
Sin Chew Daily journalist, Tan Hoon Cheng arrested under ISA (12/09/2008 8:30pm)
Tan H.C is the second person to get arrested today under ISA . She was alleged to have created "public unrest" by honestly reporting Datuk Ahmad Ismail's racist remark on chinese. The latter even refused to apologize for calling the citizens of Chinese origin as "pendatang". And what he got was just a 3-years suspension....what a fair punishment!!!
Besides that, three Malaysian newspapers - Sin Chew Daily, The Sun and Suara Keadilan - were also issued show cause letters by the Home Ministry. The ISA drag-net is expected to widen with more arrests. If im not mistaken, the next target would be Tan Siok Choo, The sun columnist for publishing an article titled "Politically blind and tone deaf?". wanna bet?
I'm just so disgusted with the way the government is trying to "silence" its critics. Why RPK? and why Tan HC? Why not Ahmad Ismail who played the racial cards and showed 'total lack of remorse' even when Badawi told him to apologise? Wasn't Ahmad a big "THREAT" to the country too? People like Ahmad Ismail and Mahathir can stir racial issues to dangerous levels and still walk free. While, people like RPK gets arrested under ISA for writing a few articles critical of the BN government. Where is Justice??

Btw sathya, any comments by our beloved Datuk Sam on this matter?..
Hey Bro, dont you know
Uncle Sam had urged the release of the reporter. Below are the summary from the Star news dated Sept 13, 2008
"MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu on Saturday appealed to the Government to release Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng who was arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA) on Friday.
In a statement Saturday, he said he would ask Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar to immediately release Tan.
Samy Vellu added that Tan is a young reporter and only reported what was said. Therefore he appealed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to release her."
But you think our PM will even consider what he reckons? I doubt so...
Looks like we don't need Anwar to topple the goverment...
Look, its collapsing all by itself.
1 stupid mistake...is all that is needed
