Mythbusters: How Does Your Right Foot Deceives You

The Myth:

Just try this. It is from an orthopedic surgeon.......

This will boggle your mind and you will keep trying over and over again to see if you can outsmart your right foot, but, you can't. It's preprogrammed in your brain!

1. WITHOUT anyone watching you (they will think you are GOOFY) and while sitting where you are at your desk in front of your computer,
lift your right foot off the floor and make Clockwise Circles.

2. Now......while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your Right Hand. Your foot will change direction.

The Mythbusters:

Rather than saying it is preprogrammed in our ROM

The fact is, both our right hand and right foot shares the same output port. As we look into the above case;

To rotate our right foot clockwise, let’s say for this we give an output Signal A. And it is observed that our foot will be rotating in clockwise direction. Next, we want to draw a "6" on our right hand , let say this as output Signal B. Hence the focus will be on the drawing of the "6", and the earlier signal A has been overwritten by Signal B. The outcome, we can see that our hand is indeed continuously drawing "6" without realizing that our right foot rotation had changed direction, making counter-clockwise circles. To test again, send again Signal A to our right foot, and observe what is the consequence to our right hand.

If you still do not believe the output port sharing theory, then just try this.

Rotate your right foot in clockwise direction, and this time draw the "6" with your left hand instead. Did you notice that your left hand is drawing the "6" as per requested and also your right foot keep rotating in the clockwise direction without having any interference.

This proves that our left hand and right foot are NOT sharing the same output port.
